Lovesick Lake (pt. 2)
Chapter Thirteen
Meg drove to her friend Amanda's house about two hours away and she said she could crash there.
*Meg, what's wrong?* Amanda asked once Meg got to her house. Meg had called to ask if she could stay there from her car.
*I cheated on AJ.* Meg said her eyes filling with tears. Meg sat on the couch next to Amanda after putting her bags away upstairs.
*Did he kick you out??* Amanda asked.
*No,* Meg said shaking her head as the tears streamed down her face. *I left. I didn't even tell him, I just left.* Meg explained and Amanda hugged her. *I don't know what to do...* Meg said putting her face in her hands.
*You should tell him.* Amanda said and Meg looked at her.
*I know...* Meg said. *I can't bare to tell him and see his face... I never meant to hurt him, especially not with his best friend.* Meg said more to herself then Amanda.
*You slept with Brian?!* She exclaimed and Meg nodded yes. *Why?* She asked after a minute.
*Well he told me he's liked me ever since I saw him and he invited me over to his house and said we wouldn't do anything I didn't want to. But of course I knew what was gonna happen. I don't know why I went... we just started kissing and we were having sex and he told me he loved me.* Meg said having difficulty talking because she was crying so hard. *And it freaked me out when he said it so I just left.* Meg explained.
*Meagan I understand. I've wanted to cheat on Kevin before... it's just a feeling you get when you've been with someone for so long...* Amanda said.
*Yeah, but you never acted on the feeling.* Meg said feeling sorry for herself. They talked for a little bit longer and then Meg went to sleep in the guest room. The next morning she called her house.
*Hey,* She said running a hand through her hair when AJ answered.
*Oh my god! Okay, can you please explain to me what the hell is going on?* AJ asked talking quickly and he sounded aggravated. In truth, AJ hadn't slept all night because he couldn't stop thinking about Meg.
*AJ, I'll tell you okay? I just need some time, I don't know what I'm gonna do but I'll be back there on Friday okay?* Meg said to him. *Are you and Alex gonna be okay until then?* Meg asked and heard AJ sigh. *AJ please... you've always understood me before... just wait. I know I'm asking a lot but I made the biggest mistake of my life and I have to figure things out okay?* Meg said to him, almost begging him.
*Okay baby... I love you no matter what though okay? Just remember that... no matter what.* AJ explained and Meg felt tears in her eyes. She couldn't stop crying.
*I know you do... I love you too.* Meg said and gave her love to Alex before she hung up. That night Meg walked downstairs into the kitchen and saw that Kevin had some people over. She had asked him not to tell AJ where she was and he agreed. She got some food and went back up to her room. She was laying on her back just thinking about what she was going to tell AJ when someone knocked on the door.
*Brian? What are you doing here?* Meg asked sitting up in her bed quickly.
*I heard you were here... How are you?* Brian asked and Meg looked at him.
*I dont want to talk to you right now. Can you please leave?* Meg asked him as she looked down at her feet.
*Meagan come on. Did you leave AJ for me?* He asked and Meg gave him the dirtiest look she could.
*Fuck no. Brian, I ruined everything with him... I love him more then life itself.* Meagan explained.
*I just want to help.* He said sitting next to her and touching her hand.
*Well first of all, don't touch me.* She said pulling her hand away. *And if you really want to help, take back what happened the other day. Make AJ forgive me for what I did...* She said looking at him and he didn't know what to say. He got up and walked out of the room and soon Meg fell asleep. The rest of the week she stayed at the house, reading or thinking about Alex and AJ. Before she knew it, it was Friday and she was putting all her clothes back into her bag and shoving it in her car.
*Listen Amanda, thank you so much for letting me stay.* Meg said gratefully. They hugged and then Meg got into her car and drove away.
*Hello??* Meg called as she unlocked the door with her key and put her bag next to the doorway.
*Mommy!!!* Alex yelled excitedly as he ran to her and she even started to cry when she was watching him run to her.
*Hey baby, did you miss me?* Meg asked picking him up and hugging him tight.
*Yeah but not as much as daddy. He cried. I was a big boy, I didn't cry.* Alex rambled on and Meg smiled at him. *Why are you crying?* He asked her as he rubbed a tear off her cheek.
*I'm just so happy to see you again.* She said hugging him again and he smiled. She put him down and watched him run back up the stairs and saw AJ standing there.
*Hi,* She said sighing as she pulled her shirt over her exposed stomach. She put her keys on the table and he walked over to her and pulled her into him.
*I missed you.* He said breathing in her scent.
*Me too.* She replied squeezing him tight, fearing that it would be the last time she ever held him.
*So, where were you?* He asked tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear.
*At Kevin and Amanda's.* She replied as they walked up to their room. *We have to talk.* She added.
*Ya think?* He asked cocking an eyebrow and she smiled. They checked on Alex and then went into their room and sat on the bed together. *So what is this big mistake?* AJ asked and Meg stood up and started to pace.
*I slept with Brian.* Meg said turning to look at him with tears in her eyes and on her face.
*You what?* AJ asked not knowing if he heard her right and she just stared at him, confirming his hearing. He let out a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair. ~I'm not gonna freak out, I'm gonna talk to her about it.~ He told himself. *Why?* He asked after a minute.
*I... I don't know... I mean I was confused. I wasn't thinking right.* Meg explained talking with her hands.
*I dont understand... you were confused so you slept with my best friend?* AJ asked her, remaining calm but he was about to burst.
*No... see Brian came over that day you had that meeting and was acting all weird around me and then he told me he had liked me since we first met up at Lovesick Lake.* Meg started to explain and AJ sat on the bed and watched her intently. *And I told him that I loved you and he started saying how he could treat me better and some other shit and that I should give him one night and if I still felt the same about you he'd leave me alone.* Meg continued.
*So you went.* AJ said bluntly getting frustrated.
*Just, let me finish.* Meg said holding up her hand. *I don't know why I went. At the time it was because I hadn't been with anyone but you for so long that... well anyway I went and we had dinner and whatever and he was being a major flirt and we kissed and yeah...* Meg said closing her eyes, afraid to look at AJ. *And in the middle of it he told me he loved me and I freaked out and left.*
*Why couldn't you just tell me before?* AJ asked her.
*I was afraid... afraid that you'd leave me, afraid I'd never be with you or Alex again...* Meg explained. *I just didn't know what to do... I'm the worst wife. I'm such a fuck up.* She said leaning against the wall and sliding down it with her face in her hands.
*Don't say that...* AJ said. He was afraid to touch her... he didn't know what to do but he hated to see her hurting.
*AJ... first I go out with some guy without telling you, then I invite my ex boyfriend over without telling you and then I fuckin sleep with your fucking best friend!!* Meg said freaking out as she started to cry hysterically.
*Is what Brian said true? Did your feelings change?* AJ asked her.
*No, and I ruined everything.* She said into her hands without looking up.
*You didn't ruin everything Meagan, just talk to me okay?* AJ said wanting her to look at him.
*AJ, I love you more then anything. I didn't want to hurt you and I'm sorry.* Meg said still looking at the floor. *I'm so sorry.* She repeated as she looked up into his eyes and saw tears streaming down his face. *I wish I could take it back.* She added in a whisper.
*Well what do we do now?* AJ asked her. *You know, I'll tell you what we do. First you're gonna get off the fuckin floor and come over here...* AJ said picking her up and taking her into his arms. *We just have to think about this.* He said wiping his eyes.
*I never meant to hurt you,* She said. Her eyes were all red and puffy and she was looking at him desperately. *And I don't want to lose you or Alex.* She said. *I love you both.* She said laying her head against his shoulder.
*You're messed up... you need to calm down.* AJ said leading her over to the bed. He laid her down, took her shoes and pants off and then covered her up and shut the lights off.
Meg grabbed his shirt and pulled him close to her. *Can I take it back?* She asked him, half awake and half asleep.
*Maybe... maybe.* AJ said kissing her face lightly. *Get some rest.* He said and then left.
